ETEN MAINTAINS UNBEATEN RECORD, NOW 5 FROM 5
The Neil Day trained and driven Eten continued his unbeaten run at the Goulburn Paceway on Sunday afternoon when succesfull in the ACT Tyre Power Pace over the 1710m journey.
Starting favourite at $1.90 the 5yo Panorama gelding was involved in an early speed duel when Wobbly Archer came out full of running. No sooner had Wobbly Archer restrained and Glen Branach made a strong challenge 3 wide and the leading trio went through the opening quarter in a brisk 29.6 seconds.
Eten then settled well in the leading role though shaded for most of the journey by Glen Branach who had reached the 'death seat' position, and going down the back straight for the last time the leading pair were joined by Painter's Lane three wide with Demis Roussos taking off 4 wide. Neil Day maintained the inside running and when straightening up for the run home dashed away from his rivals to score an easy 14.10m win with the final quarter in 28.5 seconds. The overall time returned the smart mile rate of 1:59.6
Painter's Lane battled on strongly after being wide for the last 900m whilst Demis Roussos made up much ground first up when he came from the rear of the field.
Eten is owned by the GHRC's vice president, Noel Hollingsworth along with his brother Peter and friend Peter Sullivan. Facing his toughest field to date, Eten proved his promise with a very impressive win and for his connections the lifting of EI restrictions cannot come soon enough as Eten's future is destined for Harold Park and much higher quality races.
