KIMBERLY STREET NAMED CANBERRA HORSE OF THE YEAR

Kimberly Street, owned by Crookwell brother and sister Damon and Sallyanne Allport, will be announced the Canberra horse of the year this Saturday evening (30th May) when the club holds its annual end of season awards night.

Following her latest win at the track's circuit on Monday evening the 18th of May, the 6yo John Street North mare finished the season with an unassailable tally of 22 points affording her horse of the year honour.

The mare was a model of consistency throughout the season and recorded 5 wins, 3 seconds and 1 third from her 12 Canberra starts.

The mare also scored a further 4 wins at Goulburn and Young making her one of the most improved horses racing in the Southern Tablelands.

According to Brenda Allport the family were on 'top of the world, especially when they got the trifecta' for the mare is trained by leading Goulburn trainer and family friend David Hewitt, whilst the driving was carried out by his son Bradley.  The pair will also feature at the awards night as they will be recognised respectively as the season's leading trainer and driver.  'We were all thrilled for David, especially after his accident; and Bradley did a super job driving the horse' added Brenda.

In what has been a bitter sweet season for David Hewitt, he followed a nasty track fall at Young early last year with a swag of winners throughout the season.  Other horses to feature prominently have included the highly promising but injury plagued Roboat, Nifty Hare, Cullens Princess, Nifty Wroe and Heresparis.

Kimberly Street is scheduled to compete on Friday evening's Harold Park meeting where she has drawn barrier 4 in the $8,000 WWW.TMT.COM.AU Pace over 2160m (race 1).  The field consists of an even group of M0 horses and as she did at her two previous Harold Park starts the mare is sure to prove competitive.
